New Beginnings in Music

As we approach end of September, it is becoming more and more clear what activities take place after school. All activities are important for child’s development and growth, including walks in nature, sports, creative arts, music classes and so much more.

Parents these days are presented with many choices of after school activities and there are variety of topics that interest young children. Having free time is one of them. Let’s not underestimate that!

Now we are getting to the point of this article and purpose of reading it. Listening. Listening to needs of children, noticing their eyes smile when they hear music and wanting to learn how to play a musical instrument. We listen to them and tune in with their wish.

We present children with live concerts, classical music on radio, recordings of performances of quality professional artists and we watch their reaction. Now, their reaction can be anything from disinterest, pure dislike, to love at first sight. All we need to do as adults is listen to them and hear them out. We suggest violin lessons because of a neighbor, someone at school, we hear about that great teacher in town. And again, we listened to child’s reaction. If there is happiness then we are on the right track.

The path of learning violin, piano, guitar, drums, cello, double bass, viola, harp… is then clear and enjoyable. Music lessons must come from a place in heart that longs for creativity, happiness and determination. Music lessons take patience, persistence, good guidance and effort of all parties included. It means from teacher, student, parent, nanny, any other support system in place. Then it is a success, confidence booster and life long skill.

As you make your planning for the rest of the school year with October approaching, think about tuning in with your children’s likes and dislikes. Options will clearly present themselves to you. When you are ready to start your music lessons, contact us. We are ready when you are.
